(Português) Objectives of IAISLC 2020-2021

 The main objective of the conference is to contribute to the further development of the integrationist perspective through critical dialogue with other approaches to language and communication. A secondary  objective is to explore the interdisciplinary applications and implications of integrationism for diverse regions of the world, with or without a history of colonialism. The conference will therefore invite discussion and evaluation of the strengths and weaknesses of the contribution of integrationist scholarship in relation to other frameworks, including sociocultural theory, critical discourse analysis, ethnomethodology and language ideology. By subjecting integrationism itself to critical analysis and evaluation, we hope to address the main question of IAISLC 2019: How far can integrationism help us in the task of “academically decolonizing traditional sociolinguistics?”

A third objective is to explore the extent to which integrationism can capture the multifaceted and contradictory linguistic experiences of people on the margins of society whose communicational practices have not so far been a focus for integrationistic thinking. In doing so, we wish to discuss how to best create a partnership with the Global South and with communities that were previously marginalized in the collaborative work of building and extending the relevance and reach of integrationism as a radically critical communicational philosophy.

Resumen:

(Português) Este projeto aborda o percurso histórico de construção de sentidos sobre as línguas indígenas e africanas nos contextos brasileiro e africano. Para tanto, o projeto articula sócio-história das línguas indígenas e africanas  com políticas linguísticas. O projeto busca compreender o processo de construção de um imaginário de língua (portuguesa, africana, indígena, afro-brasileira) desde as políticas linguísticas coloniais – centradas no dispositivo lusitano – até as políticas e planejamento linguísticos atuais. Trata-se de analisar o mecanismo político e sócio-histórico dos discursos sobre as línguas no contexto da colonização lusitana, com foco no Brasil, em Angola, em Moçambique, em Cabo Verde e no Timor Leste. Ademais, julga-se relevante aprofundar os sentidos de oralidade – em relação com os conceitos de memória, tradição, corpo e literatura oral – com fins de compreender a maneira como a oralidade integra o imaginário e as práticas linguísticas, especialmente no Brasil, ajudando a definir o que conta como português popular brasileiro.

O referencial teórico utilizado se baseia nos trabalhos de políticas linguísticas e sociolinguística crítica que têm se dedicado ao estudo da relação (política e socio-histórica) entre as experiências coloniais-nacionalistas e as línguas. Trata-se de uma política linguística crítica levada a cabo por pesquisadores preocupados com os contextos coloniais da América Latina e África (Ashraf, Makoni e Severo, 2020; Severo e Makoni, 2015; Zwartjes, 2011; Altman, 2011; Deumert, 2010; Irvine, 2008; Mariani, 2006; Zwartjes e Altman, 2005; Makoni e Meinhof, 2004; Freire e Rosa, 2003; Errington, 2001; Fardon e Furniss, 1993, Phillipson, 1992). Ressalta-se que a perspectiva histórica é central nessas pesquisas, pois ela possibilita uma revisão crítica das categorias coloniais e de seus usos contemporâneos.
